Discovering the True You

Scriptures that Inform

 Death to Self

Jesus admonishes that his disciples that death to our false selves as constructed by our own egos die in order to produce much fruit.

Jesus - John 12:23-25

23 But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much [a]grain. 25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Jesus notes that this denial of self will be a daily effort is needed.

23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross [a]daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

Peter speaks of Jesus life in the Spirit as something apart from life in the ego or the flesh.

I Peter 3:18

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring [a]us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,

Paul spoke of "taking off" and "putting on".  This is taking off the false and putting on the true.

Paul’s Teaching,

“Put to Death or Take off(Col. 3:5; Col. 3:8; Eph. 4:22; Rom. 6:11,Gal 2:20)

“Put On”

1)        The New Man (Col. 3:10,

2)        Tender Mercies(Col. 3:12)

3)        Love(Col. 3:14)

4)        Christ(Gal. 3:27)

You are made in the "Image of God".  This means that you have the potential to divine life and can live in fellowship with Him in ways no other creation can.

Gen. 2:26

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [c]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [d]moves on the earth.”
